My med school program sent out our official first-year class schedule yesterday—and wow. I knew it would be intense, but seeing the entire year laid out in black and white made it feel real. Most days kick off at 8:00 a.m. and wind down around 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., with a much-needed hour for lunch. While a few classes happen online, most take place in person.
We’re diving straight in—no easing into the pool. My first semester includes biochemistry, genetics, anatomy, microbiology, and immunology. Balancing all of these subjects and studying effectively will definitely be a challenge, but I’m ready to tackle it head-on.
Blocking out time on my calendar will play a huge role in staying organized and focused. With so many demanding courses, I can’t afford to wing it—time management has to be intentional. I also plan to join a study group and take full advantage of office hours. Current P1 students say it usually takes about two exams to find your footing and start scoring where you want to be. That’s both intimidating and comforting—mostly comforting.
