Jumping In With Both Feet!

I’ve officially survived my first semester of podiatry school and am rolling straight into the second.

What last semester taught me:

  • Be flexible
  • Office hours have been a chef’s kiss for my study habits, forcing me to keep up with material so I’m prepared with questions and concepts to review.
  • Tutoring has been a chef’s kiss. It combines the concept review of office hours with the added benefit of getting practical tips and tricks from students who have already taken the course.
  • Know your limits to prevent burnout
  • Don’t forget to check in with old friends
  • It’s not always about finding time but making time. It’s helpful to reevaluate what’s most important to you and build your schedule around that.
  • Organization is not a choice but a requirement

New Semester Goals:

This semester, I am going to challenge myself to do better than last semester. I know the structure and how information will be tested compared to my first semester, when I was still adjusting to the medical school shift. Here are a few ways I plan to achieve this goal

  • Use my calendar better
    • Plan 1-2 hours on Saturday or Sunday to plan out my studying and book tutoring or office hours
  • Be better about upcoming anatomy quizzes.
    • Looking ahead to see what we will be tested on and trying to learn it before the quiz.
  • Use my anatomy lab time better
    • Try to go to the lab a few days before and identify as many structures as I can.
  • Build my study plan using research-evidence methods
    • Spaced repetition
    • Pomodoro method
    • Interweaving topics
